The Labels on Translation Output (the Labels Project, for short) is based on the updated text of section 10.2 of ASTM F2575 (for labels) and the Tranquality Division of LTAC Global (for marks).
As proposed by ASTM, every piece of translation should be labeled either Professionally Verified or Unverified. Labels should be used on translations of all kinds, including localization-focused translations and transcreation-focused translations, because verification confirms that a product or service meets agreed-upon specifications.
Consumer protection is the main purpose of the Labels Project
The labels Professionally Verified Translation and Unverified Translation are standardized in the new edition of translation standard from ASTM International F2575.
As of October 2025, the ballot based on work item 92487 (see https://www.astm.org/membership-participation/technical-committees/workitems/workitem-wk92487) to change the text of section 10.2 of F2575-23 (https://store.astm.org/f2575-23.html) passed, and the new edition is in the press. It should be published in late 2025 or early 2026. Changes to the labels in the 2023 edition were anticipated, and there is a link to the “GLO” page in the References section of that edition.
Logo marks
Three concentric design elements are used to depict the labels. These elements are:
- A dashed line, rounded corners square, to illustrate the unsuccessful flow of communication, therefore representing L1, the source language.
- A solid line, rounded corners square, to illustrate the successful flow of communication, therefore representing L2, the target language, and a check mark in the center.
- The check mark becomes the most meaningful part of the logo: if untouched, it represents the PVT label, indicating that the translation has been verified by a professional, and if there is a line crossing out the check mark, it represents the UVT label, which indicates that the translation has not been verified by a professional.
