Professionally Verified Translation – PVTr
Professionally Verified Translation is a designation that identifies a translation product—a subtitle, a document, a translated audiobook, a journalistic piece…—that has been certified as professionally verified. That is an assurance to the end user that the foreign language original has been translated and/or revised by a professional who meets the requirements of ASTM F2575:2025 Standard Practice for Language Translation and/or ISO 11669:2024 Translation Projects – General Guidance.
Why label translations? The main purpose is consumer protection and transparency.
Where does the label come from? Section 10.2 of ASTM F2575 (2025 edition) standardizes the labels Professionally Verified Translation and Unverified Translation (which also encompasses AI-generated output). Every piece of translation should be labeled as one or the other.
What is verification? Regardless of the process used, a verified translation meets the agreed-on specifications.
Who can verify a translation? Only a qualified professional translator can verify a translation.
What about accountability? A translator starts a chain of trust by designating a translation as professionally verified. A publisher makes a translation available to a consumer. Everyone along the chain takes on some responsibility.
What do I need to do to obtain the label? LTAC Global is the company that manages the label and holds its copyright. We are developing a Licensing Agreement, a qualifying screening questionnaire, and a searchable database of qualified professionals to help in managing the usage of the labels. The Licensing Agreement will establish the usage terms, the qualifying screening questionnaire will ensure that only professionals who meet the Certifier’s criteria have access to the label. The searchable database will serve as a tool to ensure the individuals using the label are entitled to do so, i.e., they have been screened and found to meet the qualification requirements.
